No fear mongering here! Mineral oil is just inferi No fear mongering here! Mineral oil is just inferior to plant based oils and here's why.

Post plant based oil (that are unrefined) have other benefits in addition to softening skin and locking in moisture.

๐ŸƒPlant based oils have been studied for their benefits which include wound healing, anti-inflammatory effects, barrier repair, and anti-microbial to name just a few (depending on which one you use).

๐Ÿ’กTip: When choosing moisturizers, look for ones that use plant-based oils (preferably from companies you can verify that use high quality, unrefined oils) and see the difference they can make! Note: coconut and olive oil are two I don't recommend.

Ps. Not everyone can tolerate oils, and sometimes oil-free is the way to go, but most often than not, I've found oils (whether it's in a moisturizer or a stand alone product) can be beneficial for most adult skin! ๐Ÿ‘Œ
Two major fundamentals to slow the signs of premat Two major fundamentals to slow the signs of premature aging ๐Ÿ’ซ

(I say "slow" not "prevent" because let's be real! The cards aren't stacked in my favour when it comes to the prevalence of skin aging. I'm fair-skinned, prone to freckling, have very little oil, sweet tooth ๐Ÿ˜ฌ and a parent of two young kids who hasn't had a solid night's sleep in 6 years).

โ“At what age did you notice the biggest changes in your skin?

๐Ÿ‚I've noticed the biggest change over the last 5 years. That also coincides with when I had my kids and I'm closer to 40 than 30.

โฐ From here on out, I expect to see more major shifts in my skin every 5 years or so.

โฐ We start to lose 1% of collagen every year starting in our late 20s. That's just life (lack of sleep and stress don't help!).

๐Ÿ’ชSkin aging happens, but you can control premature aging (there are ways to help existing damage too, but that's for another day).

๐Ÿ’ฅChronic Inflammation caused by too much UV exsposure, pollution, consistent skin dehydration, weakened barrier function, chronic irritation as well as internal inflammation from foods and lifestyle weakens the skin structure, depletes it's defense systems and ultimately breaks down collagen and elastin.

๐Ÿ’ฆI'd say 90% of the skin I see is dehydrated and often lacks lipids (oils!).

Create a skin routine focused on protection, rather than "removal", which is the foundation of any "anti-aging" routine (aka healthy skin routine).

๐Ÿ“˜Read the blog to find out what you should add into your skincare and ways you can take control over premature aging! (Link in bio)

If a flower doesn't bloom, do you blame the flower If a flower doesn't bloom, do you blame the flower, or you blame its environment?

Of course you don't blame the flower.

You look for what might be the problem. The soil, the light, the location.

It's the same when it comes to us.

Surround yourself with the things, people, places that will make you thrive.

Give me a ๐ŸŒธ if you agree!

We hold so much tension in our foreheads which make any lines more pronounced.

Release that tension and soften those lines using a nourishing facial oil and gua sha tool (facial cupping or your hands also work!).

I love the shape of this gua sha tool by @holistick.ca it fits all the grooves perfectly! ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Lots of mis-information out there. Skincare can be powerful and effective, but not magic. ๐Ÿช„

๐Ÿ“๐ŸซAntioxidant serums are fantastic for counteracting damaging UV or environmental stressors, leading to inflammation and premature aging, but vitamin C isn't the only one!

Dry or mature, or sensitive skin: Try Vitamin E
Oily, acne prone, sensitive or rosacea prone: Try Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide)

Both serums pictured here are from @consonantlife

What's your go-to antioxidant serum?

What do you think? Are you for it, or against it?

As I mentioned in the video, you don't have to go for Vaseline! A good plant-based balm works perfectly and, in my opinion, is superior!
